Photo: Prof. Cary Mullis, Prof. Giuseppe Caramia

The prof. Kary Mullis, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 1993 was a guest of the University of Bologna as part of a conference on its new study on anti-infective drugs using PCR.

Professor Mullis received the Nobel Prize for the invention of PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction ) , a technique that has revolutionized biology by allowing you to amplify individual DNA fragments. This method of analysis of the biological sample is now used in most genetic laboratories in the world.

PCR is now a tool used by police forces around the world to identify those involved in a crime scene and widely used in medicine to diagnose genetic diseases and cancer and to conduct tests of attribution of authorship. In 1993 he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, while in 2004 he was awarded by the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Bologna Honorary Degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology

The scientist gave a lecture on the topic " PCR and Altermune " presenting the story of his invention and research that is making with regard to the immune system.

The meeting was held in San Giovanni Rotondo, near the ' Institute Hospital and Care House for the Relief of Suffering .

NEWSPAPERS AND TV ARE RELIABLE SOURCES OF NEWS?

Traditional media (TV and print general) are reliable sources of news? They make good science? The subject was addressed last Saturday. The topics concern science in general, but the same arguments could include applied science to the investigation. The scientific arguments in fact are often simplified and reduced to the news published by some print incorrectly.
The following presentation is accompanied by slides with links for further information.

Hello! Commitment

How long that I do not write about this lovely blog, will be at least a month! If not more ...
E 'was a very intense period, I finally lost weight consistently, about 10-11 kg total and I still lack a bit, but not as big dermordo done.
are constantly being reflective, seeking answers and above all, new questions.
Soon I will examine for the first level of Wing Tsun and quick start to complete the examination in physics, 7 others credits. Psychotherapy that I follow my will and led me to a big change that introduced me to senior members of the martial arts world, or people very close to them, however, too large.
I am a keen interest in philosophy, I'm reading and I pledge to maintain "balance."
Patience, are elements that will try to develop every day.
Experimentation means that everything is more fun.
I met interesting people from whom I learned a lot, all in five months, about learning.
With me I brought a young boy of 15 years of which I am proud and can boast of having been right in him, I see talent and I think that will do great things. I have done well to impress upon those responsible.
Many questions have not yet received a response, or, rather, the answers but we have been led to more questions. This could be a bit "depressing" but at the same time is very exciting, because it means that the adventure continues.
The law of attraction, the more skeptical, and rightly too, looks like a big joke to me, however, is served, especially conceptually to the door to other perspectives.
"There is a time to sow and a time to gather," says Ecclesiastes, and I say "a time to use and a time to throw." My intention is to transcend even the concept of attraction and I think I do it. The reality I see this "law" as a metaphor of human possibilities.
course for all the deductions and exaltation, it requires moderation.
Lately my motto is "golden mediocritas" which refers to Aristotle's commonly called, in between. I think it's one of the most brilliant insights of humanity.
"The virtue lies in between the two vices Aristotle said.

Massimo Picozzi-Carlo Lucarelli. CRIME SCENE

Massimo Picozzi and Carlo Lucarelli together again to tell the most famous cases of crime, cases such as Gianfranco Stevanin, Marta Russo, Luigi Fasulo, used to explain the techniques used in the scientific world by the state police.

Describes the mode of death, identification of the victim 's autopsy, and again, the difference between cutting weapons and firearms.

A kind of small manual forensic but immediately strikes the reader the simplicity of the language used and how they are treated in turn the arguments. For each chapter a different story, a cue to explain to the reader many concepts which are often heard but hard to understand. But even to know the truth of certain facts, heard on television, too often crippled by journalists.

Surely a text written in a professional, attentive to detail but also with attention to the reader not expert in the subject.

Massimo Picozzi A dark-need to kill the serial killer-

this is a book that will surely leads the reader to think, written by the hand of the criminologist and psychiatrist and professor of criminology, the most famous of Italy: Massimo Picozzi. Here
Picozzi speaking in first person narrative (certainly not air-fictional) the most heinous crimes committed in recent years Italian. A man skilled and personally committed to the investigation as an expert of the State Police, where, through interrogation of the killers, try to understand what drove these people to cross the shadow line that demarcates the border between madness conscious and wickedness.
The reality told in the book are eleven in all, cases such as the Monster of Circeo, the famous case of the Beasts of Satan, and yet the murder of Chiavenna.
He tells these stories so that the reader is catapulted into that reality as if he was living every single gesture or thought of that person, wondering why seemingly normal people suddenly turn into ruthless killers.
The peculiarity of this text is to bring the reader to reflect on human frailty, on the questions that still have not been resolved and perhaps never will be. This book first highlights a fundamental aspect that must not be overlooked. Who wrote it never ceases to try again today after years of activity, the emotions that a job like this could lead to a habit oblivious to such stories, horror and human evil. Very nice to read this between the lines, perhaps Picozzi even if they have not realized ...

Mastronardi, De Luca

This book addresses issues of general serial murder, or who the serial killer, because it kills, as it becomes a "monster", what to do to capture it and whether it is possible rehabilitation.
explores some specific aspects, such as serial murder committed by women, in Italy the serial murder, serial murder in the health field, luring made serial murder victims over the Internet and atypical forms of serial murder.
interesting feature the book is the story of the life of the major serial killer.
The main objective is therefore to explain why certain crimes occur and how some individuals come to commit such heinous actions.
It starts with the history of serial murder from sources that seem attributable to the threshold of the twentieth century, citing famous Roman emperors like Nero and Caligula, and other historical figures such as Nero, Henry VIII and Cesare Borgia.
The chapter closes with the classification of serial killers Mastronardi and Palermo, the definition of De Luca and the typology of serial murder classification includes two categories: the serial murderess classic and atypical serial murderess.
interesting is the analysis of childhood and adolescence of a serial murder: it seems that the traumatic experiences suffered by the subject may explain the occurrence of serial homicidal behavior in adulthood. A book
therefore very useful for scholars and not matter and those who want a comprehensive manual designed to analyze not only the individual serial killer in history, but also and above all who try to give explanation for the ulterior motives of these atrocities.
